The Village at Allen is home to the 7,500-seat Allen Event Center, a hedgerow maze in the shape of Texas, and Canine Commons Dog Park, as well as many retail and eating establishments. For visitors, Allen offers 7 hotels. Allen ISD, with an enrollment of about 18,000, has a commitment to excellence in education, and its 21 schools offer many innovative programs to Allen students. The Allen Eagle Escadrille, Allen High School's marching band, is the largest high school band in the world, with about 650 members including marching band, drill team, and color guard. Some residents of Allen are served by the Lovejoy ISD, McKinney ISD, or the Plano ISD as well. For higher education, the Central Park Campus of Collin College is only a few miles away in McKinney, and a Collin College facility for admissions and advising has been opened on the Allen High School campus. Nature lovers will delight in the Connemara Meadow Preserve as well as the nearby Heard Natural Science Museum. For sports and recreation, Allen offers a public recreation/fitness center, 2 public golf courses (Chase Oaks and Twin Creeks), tennis, swimming year-round at the city's natatorium, and other team sports. The Allen Community Ice Rink is a full-size state-of-the-art ice rink offering ice skating and hockey lessons (video). The Edge at Allen Station Park is a popular, premier in-ground concrete skate park plus 2 roller-hockey rinks, and a BMX track (video). It is the largest facility of its kind in Texas. For fishing, boating, and water sports, area lakes are within close driving distance. Allen has 24 developed public parks covering 893 acres.
